The Squeaky Chair Band

The Squeaky Chair Quartet plays a mix of swing, jazz standards, blues, gypsy jazz, popular songs, and Dawg music.  They are a group of seasoned musicians who can go from bossa's and ballads to hot jazz and western swing.  So they can provide background material for cocktail hours or up-tempo for dancing and partying.  The quartet has been performing for the past year at nightclubs, festivals, benefits, and parties.

Why "The Squeaky Chair"...  We are often asked that question and this is what we say ---

Squeaky Chair Band
Swing, Jazz Standards, Blues,
Gypsy Jazz, Pop & Dawg

When we first started getting together to play in Mike's TINY basement, we were using these beautiful antique chairs... ones that you might find in a church in the 1950's.  Our first recording sessions were done in that tiny basement using my Mac iBook (it's the recording you're listening to now).  Well, because of the age of the chairs and the grooving movement of our bodies while playing, the chairs would squeak like CRAZY.  On many of the first recordings you can actually hear the squeaks as though they were meant to be there as part of the rhythm.  Hence the name "Squeaky Chair".  Sometimes we're a trio, sometime a quartet, so "Jazz Band" seemed to work just fine.  There you have it.

Don Muller

Since age 15, Don has performed with a variety of bands playing a variety of styles over the years.  Folk, Rock, R&B, Funk, Blues, Reggae, and Fusion, among others.  Bands include Axis wave, Jahmel & the Rhythm Factory, Kaper, and, The Blues Kings. Don has also performed for Rochester area theatrical productions of 'Tommy', 'Joseph & The Technicolor Dreamcoat', 'Little Shop of Horrors', and 'Godspell'.  Largely self-taught Don has had the opportunity to study the last two years with Steve Greene and Gene Bertoncini.  We think it has helped!

Mike Hoeschele

Mike has been playing Fiddle for 30 years, mostly as an amateur. He has been a member of several bands over the years including "Hammers and Picks", "Wet Dog" is currently a member of the Contra Dance Band "Arugulla", the English Country Dance Band "As Many as Will" and the Country Band "Julie Dunlap and High Maintenance".  Mike also plays with country blues performers/song writers Jeff Riales and Jed Curran.

Nancy Wilder

Nancy Wilder is originally from Rome N.Y.  She studied Piano at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Brockport where she received her degree.  She currently repairs and tunes pianos as well as teaching piano.  She studies piano with the Eastman School of Music's Bob Strada.  She plays acoustic and electric upright bass in Rochester, St. Thomas and St. John USVI.  She is a member of the all-female Jazz Trio "Elle" and is one half of the pop duo, "Pop Tarts".  She is a great addition to the Squeaky Chair.

Bill Ribas

Bill picked up the guitar at age 13 and has been playing ever since.  He did all the usual stuff in high school, playing in bands at talent shows and parties. Then was a founding member of Hit & Run, a group which had a cut on the first Homegrown album put out by WCMF.  The next major move was to the Presstones, a power pop outfit that drew large crowds throughout the early 80’s.  Later on he joined the Chinchillas, and still plays with that band today.  Currently, he teaches guitar at Northfield Music in Pittsford.
His major influences are Jeff Beck, Django Reinhardt, Danny Gatton and Albert Collins.
